DOMINIQUE JAMES: What kind of pictures do like to take?
KATRINA BELLO: Still life, landscapes, and selfies.
DJ: What’s your favorite camera and lens? Any particular piece of photo gear that you like using?
KB: This is hard to answer since I have never bought a specialized camera, lens, photo gear for myself. What I use are my iPhone and Lumix DMC-LX7 point-and-shoot cameras.
DJ: Do you edit and enhance your pictures before showing them?
KB: Yes, sometimes, either in Adobe Photoshop or an app installed on my iPhone such as Afterlight. The most common editing I use is cropping. Also I almost always adjust the exposure because the conditions I shoot in is always overcast.
DJ: How do you share your pictures and with whom?
KB: Social media is the primary place I have shown my pictures, and in daily journal type of sharing or posting. As a studio painter, my own use of photography is as a means of equalizing my studio practice from complete isolation, and into one that allows its processes and outcomes to be engaged with my social network of artist colleagues. At the same time, photography as its own discipline with its own objectives and conceptual frameworks, has also been recently established as part of my studio work since 2010.
DJ: How do you store or archive your pictures?
KB: Because all my work is still digital at the moment, external hard drives are IT for me.
